For the Yupster in You: Cheap Sushi at Kona Grill
Where: Kona Grill, 8687 N Central Expy # 1722 Dallas, TX 75225-4500 When: Monday-Friday 3-7p.m. and 9-11p.m.
The Scene: Kona Grill is one of the most popular, if not the most popular, happy hours in Dallas, especially amongst the yuppies and hipsters. (Yupsters?) HH is only available in the bar and patio area. It's a chore finding a seat if you get there past 4:30, so get there early, or you'll have to wait with everyone else. Reverse happy hours are crazy.
The Deal: The tiered $2, $3, $5, $7 HH menu is gone. As of this week, there's a new menu in place with several of the same items, but offered at different prices. Everything on the old HH menu is now either half-off regular price or set at $7. In addition to a new Three cheese flatbread, there's also new sushi rolls offered; the bama roll, the voodoo roll, and the wave roll. Eat: Ahi wonton crisps. Fat slices of ahi tuna on crispy wonton skins. The Con: The prices on some items have gone up and waiting for a table can take a while. Lushworthy: They're not on the happy hour menu, but Kona Grill is currently pushing new low calorie cocktails. The cos(metic)tini tastes like a spiked kool-aid. Who doesn't like kool-aid?
Bottom Line: A group of friends and actually finding a table can make Kona Grill a good time. Plus, despite menu changes, it's still going to be one of the cheapest meals you'll find at the mall.
