A Steel of a Deal at Anvil Pub

Quittin' Time brings you tips on where to spend your happy hour drinking money.

Where: Anvil Pub, 2638 Elm St.
What: $1 off all liquor, most beer. Service industry Monday, half price food Tuesday, Texas booze Wednesday.
When: 4pm-8pm Monday through Friday. Additional discounts all night Monday to Wednesday.
Why: Because the vegan-friendly, bike-friendly Anvil is helping put Deep Ellum back on the map as an after-work pit stop. While many Dallasites are migrating toward Henderson or Uptown for a drinking fix, we'll still find a good excuse to head back to the old stomping grounds. In a hardwood, exposed brick interior, it's a pub that feels like a pub: a little gritty and never pretentious. Though the full bar is at our disposal, beer and scotch selections are where it's at, with an extensive menu featuring some harder to find favorites. (Try Spaten Optimator on tap.) Most days, a row of bicycles greets us at the door, parked in the rack up front. Though the working professionals usually make an appearance, most times the crowd is young to middle-age, sometimes a little sweaty from the ride over. With a daily dollar discount off all liquor, wine and most beers, along with half-price appetizers, that's reason enough for a visit. On top of that, Monday through Wednesday nights feature their own specials. Service industry Mondays draw a (duh) younger service industry crowd, who get a 20 percent discount off tabs. Tuesdays knock half price off the entire menu, and Wednesdays feature $2 Texas drafts and $4 Texas vodkas.
