Revolving Doors: Spring Has Sprung
It may not feel like it today, but spring is officially here, but that's not the only change we saw in March. Restaurants and bars looking to capitalize on patio grazers opened their doors, most notably the Katy Trail Ice House, which received lots of buzz during its soft opening last month. The bar announced on its Facebook page today that the grand opening has been delayed because of mechanical problems with the draft beer equipment. Once the beer is flowing, we'll finally have a reason to visit the trail other than to ogle hot moms in Nike Tempo shorts. See how the month played out after the jump.
Restaurants Opening in March
Fudgemakers, 1010 S. Pearl Expressway -- The fudge shop opened this past weekend in Shed 2 at the Farmers Market. Yes, commenters, that means it technically opened in April.
Katy Trail Ice House, 3136B Routh St. -- The bar has been serving beer from Kegerators while the draft equipment endures mechanical issues.
Serious Pizza, 2807 Elm St. -- The latest addition to Deep Ellum serves pies until 3 a.m.
Panyu's Fresh Asian Cuisine, 1201 Belt Line Road, Garland --The restaurant started serving sushi and noodle dishes at the beginning of March.
Asador, 2222 Stemmons Freeway --The eclectic restaurant is serving breakfast, lunch and dinner inside the Renaissance Hotel.
Social 121, 5760 State Highway 121, Plano -- The new restaurant/bar/lounge concept took over the space that formerly housed Loft 610.
Red Dog Right, 3311 E. State Highway 114, Grapevine -- As Jenny reported last month, the restaurant gave out $10 gas cards to the first 100 customers on March 22.
Bistro Watel's, 6047 Lewis St. -- René Peeters' new restaurant opened in the location left vacant after Sharon Hage's York Street closed in November.
Great One Cookie Company, 3111 Monticello Ave. -- These treats may not be as trendy as cake balls or cupcakes, but everyone loves a good chocolate chip cookie.
Dimples Cupcake Truck -- Allegations of unpaid employees and this D Magazine article got our attention back in November, and then the small chain of cupcake shops closed in December. Now the Dimples folks are selling frosted goods from a truck. We saw the truck parked in the Albertson's parking lot near the West Village on Friday, and co-owner Bryan Owens told us they have always sold cupcakes from the truck, even when they owned multiple stores. He declined to comment about the allegations of financial misdoing.
RedFork Tavern -- Jeff Harris, formerly of Craft, will soon be serving New American fare near Henderson Ave.
