High-end chefs kick it cafeteria-style, and Silly Bandz and sub sandwiches help save lives. Read on.

The Event: Chefs for Farmers
The Cause: The Family Place
The Where and When: Highland Park Cafeteria, 4 p.m. March 13.
Cafeteria-style is no longer reserved for high schools and Luby's. A team of Dallas' finest chefs will gather at Highland Park Cafeteria on March 13 to create and dish out gourmet dishes from farm-fresh ingredients for the third Chefs For Farmers event, founded by chef Matt McAllister.

For $85 (not counting tax and service fee), guests can grab a tray and walk the line to sample food and interact with the chefs. DJs Jennifer Miller and Paul Paredes will keep the atmosphere lively.

The event starts at 4 p.m. For tickets, visit

The Place: Jersey Mike's Subs restaurants in DFW
The Event: March Month of Giving
The Cause: Wipe Out Kids' Cancer
Now until March 27, Jersey Mike's Subs will donate money to Wipe Out Kids' Cancer: 25 cents for each regular sub sold, and 50 cents for each giant sub sold. In addition, each restaurant will have a donation bucket for customers to hand over their own contributions. If you give $5, you get six Silly Bandz and a coupon for a free chip and drink. Battling childhood cancer should be enough incentive, but now we're talking Silly Bandz. Who could say no?

March 28 is the big day for Jersey Mike's and WOKC. Customers who donate at least one dollar (and come on, don't be stingy) will get a free regular sub.
