Stretch Your Luck: Black-Eyed Peas at Mama's Daughters' Diner
Well, another New Year has come and gone, and hopefully your celebration wasn't too over the top. (It couldn't have been that raucous, otherwise you wouldn't be here reading this). If you're like many Southerners and Texans, you celebrated with a meal featuring ham and black-eyed peas, consuming at least one pea for every lucky day you wish to have in 2011. Though the date has passed, many hungry patrons will make their way in the New Year to such bastions of home cooking as Mama's Daughters Diner, where black-eyed peas are a vegetable choice several times a week. Rich with smoky bacon flavor and done to a turn, these legumes are one of the best dishes to select at one of Mama's five locations. So, if your luck has been a trifle rotten lately, you may wish to sample the dish that lent its name to the featured act at this year's Super Bowl halftime. It can't hurt, and even if it doesn't improve your fortunes, you'll still be rewarded with a tasty dish.
