Who says too many Dallas restaurants serve mussels?
Each week, Happy Eating will highlight a different restaurant happy hour food menu, keeping you informed of what deals there are out there.

This week we spotlight the happy hour menu of one of Dallas' most beloved bistros. (For info on local happy hour drink specials elsewhere, check out Jesse Hughey's Quittin Time.

Where: The Grape
When: 4:30-8 p.m. Monday and 4:30-7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday
The Scene: Candlelight, a tall and tiled bar, and French country wooden tables and stools. Great spot for some quiet conversation or for a romantic drink.

Cozy for a drink, a nosh or romance
The Deal: Reasonably price bar bites include $2 Marcona almonds, $4 herbed frites and aioli, $4 cheese selection, $6 bistro style mussels, and $6 flash-fried calamari.
The Steals: The 5 for 3 charcuterie plate is the best deal, by far. Select five quality cheeses and meats from the list, but pay for only three. The normal menu price for the five-item charcuterie plate is $18. Happy hour price is $14. The accompanying crackers and fruit make this dish a meal for two.
The Con: Baked brie is on the happy hour menu, but the price is the same as on the regular menu.
Eat: The braised lamb tartines, $6. Savory roasted garlic, sweet carmelized onions, acidic oven dried tomatoes, gooey Cambazola cheese and tender braised lamb atop three slices of crunchy crostini.
Skip: Nothing scary to avoid.
Lushworthy: Well, the place is a wine bistro.

The bottom line: It's a fiscally conscious way to try something else at The Grape outside of their deservedly popular burger. Also, for those who shy away from happy hours because of the crowds and chaos, this is a well-hidden gem in Dallas.
