It's Not Too Late to Make New Year's Eve Plans
Still don't have plans for New Year's Eve yet? You've only got three days left to plan the big night or risk spending Friday night ordering from Papa John's.
On Monday, we gave you our top picks for NYE dining, and today we've got suggestions for where you can still find those prime 7 p.m. dinner reservations and parties that go past midnight.
For those looking to eat and party at the same place, go to Dish (4123 Cedar Springs) for a three-course dinner and stay for the cocktail party to ring in the new year. Appetizers include ricotta gnocchi and sweet crab cannelloni; Porcini-crusted NY strip and lobster ravioli are just two of the main course offerings. For dessert, try the passion fruit "Bomb," fruit custard and lemon sponge cake topped with Pop Rocks. After dinner, stick around for a cocktail party on the patio, featuring cocktails, small bites and live music.
More after the jump...
Like Halloween, New Year's Eve is a night that responsible adults can make utter fools of themselves without repercussion. Pull out your Dick Cheney mask (but leave the gun at home) for a masquerade bash at The Nodding Donkey (2900 Thomas Ave.). A DJ will be spinning until 2 a.m., and there will be a balloon drop and champagne toast to ring in the new year. Just make sure you kiss the right Zorro at midnight.
If you're looking to impress your date, book a table at Rathbun's Blue Plate Kitchen (6130 Luther Lane). Sample appetizers like pork terrine, foie gras and venison scaloppini before moving on to main courses like lobster and ribeye. Dessert includes a decadent Bailey's pot de crème and whoopee pies. After this meal, you may be watching the ball drop from your recliner. Make your reservations fast because we doubt those 7 p.m. spots will be available much longer.
Good deals are hard to find on New Year's Eve, especially when some restaurants are charging hotel room prices for tasting menus. Get more food and fun for your buck at Monica's Aca y Alla (2914 Main St.). For $60 a person, enjoy a three-course dinner and receive a $20 gift card. Most restaurants are offering just one puny glass of champagne in their dinner packages, but Monica's knows the way to our hearts -- each couple will receive a whole bottle of Champagne. That means you can have more than one midnight toast.
