A downtown fusion restaurant that closed unexpectedly last year may be gearing up for a reopening.

Fuse, a clubby Tex-Mex-Asian spot that occupied the Browder building for four years before shutting down last December, has received a new certificate of occupancy. After Fuse closed, rumors swirled online that the restaurant would reopen in spring 2010 after a remodeling project, but the venue at 1512 Commerce St. has thus far remained vacant.

Tim McEneny, the serial restaurant developer behind Dragonfly, Obar, Fuse and Dish, hinted he might replace Fuse with a burger joint. According to an e-mail from McEneny, he's no longer involved with the location. "I'm not working on that project any more," he writes.

The burger concept may have vanished along with McEneny: The certificate was issued for "Fuse Japan."
