Dollar Off Beers (Or Biers, Rather) At Gordon Biersch Happy Hour

When: 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and all day Sunday
What: $1 off all beers, $2 off wines by the glass, $5 off premium cocktails, plus specially priced appetizers
Why or why not: The discount makes these beers -- all made on-site, as the restaurant also functions as a brewpub, and sells only its own German-inspired brews -- even more attractive. That's especially true of the Winter Bock, a very rich winter brew. And while drinking wine or mixed drinks kind of defeats the purpose of going to a brewpub, the even better discounts -- especially that $5 off cocktails -- are pretty enticing.
The food, on the other hand?
Not quite so enticing, at least in our experience. Same could be said for the sterile, chainy ambiance.
Still, with its location in the Park Lane development near NorthPark Center, there's a good chance you'll be in the area and thirsty from holiday shopping, or in need of a little buzz to brace yourself for the damage you're about to inflict on your credit card. And if you're a bit too refined to bring a flask into the mall or chug a couple of brewskis in the parking garage -- we don't know anyone who does that, swear -- Gordon Biersch's happy hour may just do the trick.
