Each week City of Ate will give you the lowdown on a local happy hour in Quittin' Time, with the details and why you should or shouldn't take up the featured bar or restaurant on its drink specials.

Where: Idle Rich Pub, 2614 McKinney Ave., 214-965-9926

When: 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday

What: $1 off all drafts, house drinks, wells and calls, $2.50 domestic longnecks.

Why: Just because you're rich doesn't mean you want to pay full price for drinks. Same goes for if you're not, natch. And this pub is a welcoming, homey spot for customers of any economic status.

The name, as explained in this article dating to the pub's opening, carries a double meaning, as it suggests not only the leisure class but is slang for beggars in owner Feargal McKinney's native Ireland. And anyone who has devoured the hearty, Dude Food-worthy mussels or fish and chips, grazed at a cheese board or sipped a Maredsous 8 or Chimay White would probably add a third connotation -- contented idleness after enjoying such rich food and drink.

The Idle Rich is right in line with its sibling bars The Old Monk, Blackfriar and The Dubliner, with the dark wood paneling and extensive beer and whiskey selection evoking a European pub while its indie-rock playlist and inviting porch further set the mood for its clientele, a mix of trendy Uptown barhoppers and hip twenty- and thirtysomethings.
