The Green Room Exorcises Ghost
For a Good Cause

Diners who've spent their meals at the new Green Room lamenting the old Green Room may have a chance this month to indulge their nostalgia.

Park's Marc Cassel -- who served as The Green Room's chef during its storied heyday -- is getting the band back together for a dinner benefiting former sous chef James Pitzer, who lost his home in a fire last week. Tentatively scheduled for November 29, the event at The Green Room will include former Green Room chefs and front-of-the-house staffers.

"It will be a reunion deal," Cassel says.

Cassel, who has a planning meeting scheduled this afternoon, stresses the fundraiser is still "in the organizing stages." He hopes to have a date and ticket prices settled by the end of the week.

"None of this is for certain," he warns.

Since the Green Room reopened this fall under chef Joel Harloff, reactions to the restaurant have been tempered by diners' rosy recollections of the Deep Ellum institution's first incarnation. A number of guests have grumbled about wanting their old Green Room back.

"If that's what they want, let's give them what they want, but let's do it for a good cause," Cassel says.

If Cassel has his way, this will be the last time he trots out the Green Room's ghost: He's apparently conceptualizing the event as a sort of exorcism.

"Hopefully, this will put it to bed," he says.
