Charitable Eating: Enjoy a Guilt-Free Thanksgiving

ntfb logo.jpg
If you're feeling a little guilty that your Thanksgiving is going to feature three turkeys, 27 different sides and the Mississippi River's worth of wine while others go without, relax. Dallas has plenty of charitable eating options coming up this month.

The place: Smashburger
The cause: Salvation Army
On your lunch break, get to the Los Colinas Smashburger and stock up on Lonestar Burgers. Do the same thing for dinner. From now until November 25, Smashburger will donate $1 from every Lonestar Burger sold toward supporting the Salvation Army.

The place: Central 214 at Hotel Palomar Dallas
The cause: Resource Center Dallas and fight against HIV
Chef Blythe Beck and the aptly named sommelier Emily Wines invite you for a casual-cool evening of food and wine from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. November 18. The experts will show you how to select and pair wine like a pro. All they're asking is a minimum donation of $20 that will go to benefit Resource Center Dallas and the fight against HIV.

The place: Grady's
The cause: North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank
Grady's is participating in the Taste of NFL North Texas Dinner series. On Tuesday, November 16, diners can pay $125 and enjoy cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and the warm glow for the rest of the evening for helping out local food banks

The place: Kent Rathburn's restaurants Abacus, Blue Plate Kitchen and Jasper's Plano.
The cause: North Texas Food Bank
If you find yourself in one of the above-mentioned Kent Rathbun restaurants between now and November 17, go ahead and order the "Double Rewards Dish." When you do, know that you've helped Kent Rathbun and Capital One's effort to raise and donate up to $15,000 for the North Texas Food Bank.

The place: Central Market Dallas
The cause: North Texas Food Bank
While we're on the subject of Kent Rathbun, the chef-slash-philanthropist has also joined up with Dallas photographer Pat Harverfield for the 2011 North Texas Food Bank calendar. The calendar will be full of Rathbun recipes and photographs of the dishes. On November 16, Rathbun will host a cooking demonstration and sign calendars at Central Market Dallas. 100 percent of calendar proceeds will go to the North Texas Food Bank.
