Shouldn't a Cliff Lee Burger Have Caviar On It?

Local restaurants are continuing to try to capitalize on the Rangers' success, with the first burger named for a ballplayer becoming available at lunchtime today.

Scotty P's Hamburgers' Cliff Lee burger features a mound of jalapenos and jalapeno jack cheese, in honor of the star pitcher's "on fire" performance. According to the local burger chain's Facebook page, the burger's "served on a bun as crisp as Lee's cut fastball and as soft as his change up."

Tereso Rojas, manager of the store's Allen location, says his restaurant hasn't yet been swarmed by Rangers loyalists: As of 11:30 a.m., nobody had ordered the celebratory sandwich.

"Not yet, ma'am," Rojas said. "We just started today."

While the Cliff Lee burger's a one-day special, Scotty P's is among the many area sports bars and casual eateries that have offered aggressively priced promotions throughout the play-off season. Yesterday, the restaurant discounted every menu item by 25 percent.

Fine-dining restaurants are also trying to woo baseball fans who might otherwise watch tonight's game at home: Restaurant Ava, which typically draws a less-than-rowdy crowd, is hoping to drum up bar business tonight with $8 burgers, mussels, fish and chips and brisket tacos. Owner Randall Copeland's also got a deal for drinkers that's especially brave considering the Rangers' ninth-inning offensive performance in Game 3: "Every time the Rangers score a run, you call it $3!!," Copeland promises on his Facebook page.
