Hash Over: Cheap Beer and Food For The Quarter Bar and El Fenix Anniversaries; Maximo Celebrates Guacamole Day; DISH has a New Lunch Menu
If we had to pick a theme for this week's Hash Over, then it would be cheap, very cheap, celebrations. So, we're going to need you to cancel whatever you have going on this Wednesday and Thursday, and join in on the fun, cheapskate.
The Quarter Bar, part of the Uptown Bread Winners, will celebrate its 10th anniversary this Thursday, September 16, with 25-cent draft beer from 4 p.m.-midnight. No, that wasn't a typo. Yes, you will be paying a quarter for every draft beer your purchase that evening. Uptown will also be handing out Mardi Gras beads and serving hurricane-flavored booze pops throughout the night.
And you might want to become a fan of Bread Winners and The Quarter Bar on Facebook, because every Friday in September, one FB fan will be randomly selected to win a $100 gift card to the cafe and bar.
Oh, we're not done yet, folks. The anniversary celebration will last all month with the Quarter Bar raising funds for Operation Kindness. The bar is asking customers to bring in old cell phones to be donated to Phoneraiser.com, a local organization that recycles old cell phones, in exchange for a free drink (customer's choice). The money raised by donating old cell phones will go to Operation Kindness, the oldest and largest nonprofit no-kill animal welfare organization. OK, now we're done.

So, if you're buying cheap drinks on Thursday, why not purchase cheap food on Wednesday? El Fenix will celebrate its 92nd anniversary by offering a 92-cent enchilada special this Wednesday, September 15, from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. at its flagship restaurant, located at 1601 McKinney Ave.
Did you know that this Thursday, September 16, is National Guacamole Day? Yeah, we didn't either. Maximo Cocina Mexicana and Margarita Lounge will celebrate by offering the Guacamoleros prepared table side for $4 during lunch and $4.50 during dinner. The Guacamoleros is signature dish by chef Amador Mora, and will feature either serrano or habanero peppers muddled into the mix.
DISH restaurant just added some new dishes to itsr lunch menu. Now guests can choose from a turkey club wrap, penne or spaghetti pasta, or spinach-artichoke flatbread. They also added protein plates like grilled herb chicken, grilled steak and pan-seared salmon. You can also receive 10 percent off your lunch meal if you mention you heard about the new menu additions.
