Fried Beer To Cross State Fair Lines and Go National
Fried beer has started its march to the sea, with the much-publicized snack scheduled for a second outing at Savannah's 27th annual Oktoberfest this weekend.
"Believe it or not, fried beer will be available," the Savannah Morning News reported today.
Fried beer has not been universally beloved by State Fair goers, but creator Mark Zable's spun the snack's mixed reception into his sales pitch:
"Some people have said it's the best thing they've ever tasted, others have said it's okay, and one woman spit it on the floor and said, 'It makes me want to vomit!'," Zable told the Savannah Morning News.
Nobody answered the phone at Oktoberfest offices, but organizers are obviously proud of their deep-fried coup.
"That's right, we said FRIED BEER," the event's website proclaims. "Be one of the first in the world to try it."
Of course, thousands of Texans have already added their names to the global list of fried-beer samplers. What makes the Savannah festival special is beer-nibblers will have the chance to eat fried beer nuggets while clogging and cheering on racing dachshunds.
"It's non-stop fun for everyone," Savannah Waterfront Association director Kenny Hill told his hometown paper.
