The Common Table Has Good Beer. The Food?

• I liked the penne pasta with roasted pumpkin and toasted pumpkin seeds, and was tickled to be able to order an arugula salad. Also appreciated that their sides included corn succotash. But hey, harshly negative reviews are a lot more fun to read, and they get people to comment, so here is one more.

• Oh no, most certainly not. Because it sounds much more fun to be overly critical of a sub-feature of these places, and I'd expect nothing less than perfect food out of their kitchens. Seriously, I know she's a food critic just doing her job. Bottom line, it stuck out to me that negative reviews just happened to be for the two new places that have (finally) nailed the food and beer combo. I'm not seeing where such a huge variance in the kitchen came from.

• "The Moth and Common Table are both a big step up compared to the other establishments in town that attempt to have a mix of good beer and food." If you were going there just to eat, not as a place to have good beer and hopefully better than average food, would you be as forgiving?

• Oh yeah, and the reason the servers suck is they hire for a certain look - not skill or friendliness.

• Hanna's right on. When they opened they had a chicken parm sandwich that was pretty good but they changed it to sliders in their 'wisdom'. Been there three times and the food is no good and the beer selection is good but overpriced. And I don't know why they can't do happy hour on Friday...

• Interesting to hear this feedback on the Common Table, and my curiosity led me to flip back and read over the review on the Moth. I'm left wondering that something must have happened since I have had polar opposite experiences (on multiple occasions) on some of the aforementioned "weaker" dishes like the burger and chicken-fried ribeye at the Common Table. The burger was juicy with a lightly toasted bun, and the ribeye certainly did not taste "industrial" and to me, seemed hand-battered. Same goes for the Moth's fish and chips that had meaty hunks of cod and skin that was nowhere near as dark as auburn. I don't think the food is as bad as the reviews make it sound. The Moth and Common Table are both a big step up compared to the other establishments in town that attempt to have a mix of good beer and food.
