The Recession, one of Bolsa's specialty cocktails.
Each week City of Ate will give you the lowdown on a local happy hour in Quittin' Time, with the details on why you should or shouldn't take up the featured bar or restaurant on its drink specials.

Where: Bolsa, 614 W. Davis St., 214-367-9367

When: From opening till 7 p.m. every day; wine discount all day Tuesday

What: Specialty cocktails for $5, plus half-price wine by the bottle on Tuesdays

Why: You've already read plenty of reasons to eat at this groundbreaking restaurant: the locally sourced "slow food," the patio, the flatbreads, even the coffee.

But as our official Girl Drinker Merritt Martin wrote last spring, the bar's specialty cocktails are just as thoughtfully created as the food items on the restaurant's ever-changing menu. And if you don't make it tonight (or any Tuesday) in time for the happy hour, go for a half-priced bottle of wine.

Even those who normally don't appreciate mixed drinks can appreciate taking a few bucks off the prices of cocktail creations like the Recession, a sweet orange-and-drunken-cherry take on the classic Old Fashioned, as they're made with seasonal fresh fruit and herbs rather than concentrates and sour mixes. Tuesday's wine discount is an especially good deal, as the restaurant has a very well thought-out selection of vinos.
