As a countdown to the Dallas Observer's "Best of Dallas" 2010, City of Ate is serving up 100 of the favorite dishes we crave, savor and hope to scarf down again soon. These dishes are in no particular order. Some are little known, others celebrated. Some are pricey, others can be eaten on the cheap, but all are delicious to the extreme. No. 89: Angry Dog at Angry Dog

Everyone has an opinion as to what constitutes a great hot dog. Some prefer steamed dogs, others grilled, still others don't care so long as there's chili and cheese. The folks at Angry Dog know how to make one hell of a dog--their irresistible chili cheese dog, which at $5.95, will cure your hangover and leave you with a few bucks to spare.

The Kosher beef dog is split and grilled, then placed in a thick grilled bun. Then it's topped with mustard, spicy chili, shredded cheddar, and grilled onions, but you can get raw onions or none if you want--wuss. While we're usually on the side of chili purists who insist on bean-free chili, the angry dog is one exception. Angry Dog's chili tastes just like the homemade, slow-cooked goodness from mom's stove. Make sure you pull out your knife and fork, because the Angry Dog's angry dog is served open-faced and slathered in so much chili and cheese, you'll need those fries to mop up the remnants.
