Skee-ball and booze, together at last.
Each week City of Ate will give you the lowdown on a local happy hour in Quittin' Time, with the details on why you should or shouldn't take up the featured bar or restaurant on its drink specials.

Where: Barcadia, 1917 N. Henderson Ave., 214-821-7300

When: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Mondays

What: $1 off everything during happy hour every day except Sunday. Additionally, Tuesday nights feature $3 Texas drafts (currently Saint Arnold's Lawnmower and Spring Bock, Fireman's 4 and Shiner Bock) and free play on arcade games. Wednesday is Pint Night with most pints priced at $3 all night. Monday includes half-priced food all night long with the open-to-close happy hour special. Also, Sundays at Barcadia offer $4 you-call-its plus featured brunch drinks from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why: Skee-ball, old-school stand-up arcade games and booze--together under one roof. Need we say more? All right, we will.

The bar features more than 20 premium draft beers (and a few non-premium brews, such as PBR) and more than 30 bottled and canned brews. Food includes upscale takes on typical bar grub such as sandwiches, hot dogs and quesadillas. There's a spacious patio for smokers and their friends.

But the main draw is for Gen X-ers who want to relive their wasted childhood days of plugging quarters into pinball and skee-ball machines and classic arcade video games like Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, Street Fighter II and Q*bert. And just as they were back in the '80s, the games still cost just two bits--except tonight and every Tuesday, when they're FREE. Free games and beer instead of Slurpees? It's even better than being a kid again.

Just one word of warning: Spy Hunter is a lot harder than you probably remember it being, especially after a few brewskis. When the bulletproof enemy car knocks you off the side of the road yet again, just take a deep breath and remind yourself: It was just a quarter. Or free, if you go tonight.
