Dear Snapple: An Open Letter Concerning the Abandonment of Soda

A Snapple soda bottle. The CLR is elusive.
Dear Snapple,
You produce beverages -- allegedly with the best stuff on Earth -- with which many are satisfied. Some might say they even crave your drinks. Even 30 Rock has been generous with Snapple's product placement, with character Cerie going so far as to declare, "I only date guys who drink Snapple."

Long story short, many hip people who appreciate finely crafted comedy dig on the Snapple. You know you're well-loved.

But Days Gone Bite has come across at least four cases -- FOUR! -- of our own readers (as well as many other instances on the Internet) lamenting the long lost Snapple sodas.

What? Snapple sodas? Yeah, remember when you made those? Cream D'Vanilla, Jamaican Ginger Beer, Tru Root Beer, Peach Melba and the most mourned Cherry-Lime Rickey? On a fine spring day like this one, seems a shame to not be able to pop open a Snapple Cherry-Lime Rickey and quench that thirst with a tart and sweet Rickey wash.

Why, Snapple? Why? Some people surveyed for this open letter didn't recall the perfection that was the Snapple soda, but those who were conscious of their soda swilling from around 1983  (when the Snapple Lady was just hitting the airwaves) through the mid-1990s just might recall the plastic capped wonderstuffs and wonder where and why said stuff went away.

So Snapple, tell us. Why did you take the sodas -- specifically, the Cherry-Lime Rickey -- away? And will you ever bring them back (say, for an anniversary promotion or some such marketing ploy)? And so it's easier for you to respond, we did fill out the form on your Web site. Looking forward to hearing from you...and drinking a Cherry-Lime Rickey...unless it's been built up in all these memories for years, in which case we just won't admit that when the time comes.

Thanks so much,
Days Gone Bite

UPDATE:

Yesterday at 6 p.m., Snapple's "Consumer Relations" responded via e-mail...make that form e-mail. Read the earth-shattering correspondence after the jump.

There was never a better soda on the planet than Snapple. Cherry-Lime Rickey was my favorite, followed by Creme D'Vanilla, Tru Root Beer and Peach Melba. It was even more special because I would have to go visit my friend in New Jersey to get the stuff, since it wasn't sold in NE Ohio. Along with Wavy Gravy Ben & Jerry's, Snapple sodas are sadly missed.

I used to make egg creams using Vanilla Snapple. Loved it! A cold Cherry-Lime Rickey; superb. I have no need to buy Snapple anymore as I simply don't enjoy tea. Tea sucks & everybody & their mother makes it. You guys had gold. You guys had magic... now you have some Tea. WTF!!!

Loved the vanilla. Snapple sold out a long time ago. I am done with them. They are no different than Coke since the 90's.

I too am in deep depression and missing those w onderful Snapple sodas of the past . Cherry lime Rickey was the best. The commercials say a simple phone call can get a lightly sweetened tea almost instantly. Snapple who do we call to get what we want???

I'm currently pregnant and seriously craving a cherry lime rickey right now. My search to see if it still existed led me here... Curse you, Snapple!

I have a major craving for a Cherry Lime Rickey right now. If Snapple insists it makes The Best Stuff on Earth, it has no excuse not to bring back that amazing soda!

I second that I would pay $10 for one of these sodas. I was just telling my husband all about the wonder of a Cherry Lime Ricky after I drank the cherry lime creation Taco Bell is selling these days. Once Snapple removed Wendy (the Snapple lady) and their sodas, I stopped buying their product. If I want Vitamin Water or some other hyped up tea, I will buy something that tastes better and is better for me. I just want a damn Snapple soda!!!

Biggest gaffe ever. Best soda/ drink ever made, cherry lime rickey snapple soda. it was a treat unlike any other.... and they seem quite fine with a notice of disappointment rather than pleasing their longest customers. shameful. do away with the stupid black and red teas or whatever other copycat drinks they make nowdays, and bring back what the people truly want. they are trying to copy companies like vitamin water and those other niche drinks by including titles like immunity and metabolism, how bout pleasure? sad that even when people scream and plead for it, they coldly give some corporate vomit speech about we're sorry blah blah blah buy our other drinks though.

I do remember some of their sodas, especially the Peach Melba Soda. I would pay $10 for just one of those. My first summer out of college, I used to go to an ice cream place in Elizabeth NJ and buy one almost daily on my way to the park. So, if anyone out there has some of those, please let me know. I'd a whole case.

Snapple, what is wrong with you? Do you care about our feelings?

Thanks

Victor

I loved the Cherry Lime Rickey! This story made me think of this video which I saw earlier this year. An Open Letter to Snapple for different reasons.

I remember always getting one at the 7-11 near the Arcadia Theater on the way home from a night of dancing to 80s dance music. Good times.
