Swear we're not trying to turn Hash Over into Hophead Jr., but there are several noteworthy beer-related events and announcements that will interest food lovers and beer lovers alike.

First off, tonight the Idle Rich will hold its annual Christmas and Winter Beer tasting in a self-paced format from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This year's offerings include Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome, Anchor Christmas, Barbar Winter Ale, Delirium Noel, St. Bernardus Christmas and Sierra Nevada Celebration. Brews will be paired with cheeses including Humboldt Fog, Cave Aged ... aww, who are we kidding? Nobody cares about the cheeses after round three. Reservations are recommended at 214-965-9926 or by e-mail.

Also, the Ginger Man is in the midst of its Twelve Days Of Christmas Pint Nights, with keep-the-glass deals going on almost nightly beginning at 5:45 p.m. Tonight's offering is Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome, followed nightly this week through Sunday by Sam Adams Winter, Rahr Winter Warmer, Harpoon Winter Warmer, Boulevard Nutcracker, Shiner Holiday Cheer and Sierra Nevada Celebration.

If you're more into drinking at home, Sigel's stores are stocking up on holiday craft beers, including the Champagne-aged Deus Brut des Flandres at a whopping $38.49 for a 750-ml bottle as well as St. Bernardus Christmas Ale, Estrella Damm Inedit, Blue Moon Grand Cru, the great Delirium Noel and more.

Also going on this week ...

The Libertine's December beer dinner 7 p.m. Wednesday is a reminder that non-holiday beers still exist, with Merchant Du Vin offerings including Ayinger Ur-Weiss, Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale and Taddy Porter, Orval Trappist Ale and Lindeman's Framboise paired with Amish bleu cheese-filled pork loin, cinnamon squash soup and more. Reservations are recommended at 214-824-7900. Cost is $50 per person.

The Barley House Toys For Tots drive Saturday will feature music by Graham Wilkinson and the Underground Township, and is boasting the theme "Bring a toy for a toddy." That reminds us of our mother's surefire way of getting us to stay in bed at night, "Toddies for Tots."
