Since moving to my new North Dallas 'hood, I haven't been a fan...at all.
It started with my love/hate relationship with my new tollway commute to work. It loves taking my money and well, I hate--absolutely hate--it. Then people letting their dogs run rampant around the apartment complex, and neighborhood kids thinking my car is a soccer net during their after school games.
The one thing I can't be all Scrooge-like about is the food...oh, the wonderful food.
I now have Picasso's Pizza on number 3 speed dial (sorry grandma). Lover's Egg Roll and I are now getting pretty serious (no worries, they will never replace my beloved Chef House). But I felt that maybe I need to venture out and maybe date a few more restaurants before I committed with my current flames.
This is where Oliver's Eatery comes in. It's a small restaurant located in a Albertson's shopping center and I've been wanting to try it out. So I Googled it, like I do with any potential suitor, to find out more.
They immediately made me blush when their website stated they deliver. I looked the menu over and over, weighing the pros and cons. They received a tally mark in the pro section for offering chili, and well, it was kind of hard to find a con with them. They offer everything from salads to burgers to pastas to pizzas. I decided this is the man...err...restaurant that I want to take out on the town for a night of slow dancing and drinking of fine wines.
I called Oliver's and almost fainted when a Jon Hamm voice twin answered. It was fate! I must admit I got a little weak in the knees when he asked if I wanted cheese with my chili and extra container of chipotle ranch with my salad. Jon Hamm's voice twin then proceeded to tell me it would only be 25 minutes until there would be a knock at my door. I immediately ran to my bathroom and put some blush and teased the hair a little bit in case Don Draper does have a second gig as a food delivery man in Dallas.
Then 15 minutes later I heard the knock...15 minutes? Wow, I was falling hard for Oliver's. I teased the hair a little more and then puckered the lips before I opened the door. I was preparing myself to do my best Mrs. Robinson impression, and actually that would have been very, very accurate if I went through with it. I opened the door to find a teenager holding my food sack. My hopes and dreams of a new life with Jon Hamm's voice twin were crushed.
I tied my robe close and grabbed the food. I sent Benjamin Braddock on his way with a nice tip. The only way to deal with this heartbreak was to eat, and that is exactly what I did.
I started with the Santa Fe chicken salad with chipotle ranch as a dressing. The salad dressing didn't taste like chipotle or ranch. It had more of a sweet, tangy taste. Oh well. Then I moved on to the chili and I filled it with shredded cheddar cheese and crackers. It hit the spot and made my heart all warm and fuzzy.
That is when I knew that I wasn't in love with Oliver's, but there was definitely some lusting going on. We may or may not go out again. Only time will tell.
