My ancestors sure knew what they were doing by using the magical cacao bean as currency back in the day. But so many Dallas confectioners bastardize their chocolate creations by incorporating dairy, eggs, and other animal-based ingredients. No, thanks!
So where CAN vegans find chocolaty happy endings in Dallas? Well--let's take a tour of Dallas' vegan dessert scene.
Cosmic Café: You'll often find an assortment of vegan chocolate cakes at Cosmic Café. Regular chocolate is pretty standard on the dessert board, but some variations might include Chocolate Almond, Chocolate Hazelnut, and German Chocolate. SideDish reported in March of this year that vegan cakes were new at Cosmic. I called bullshit. And even restaurant owner, Praveen Sachdev, confirmed that they've always had vegan cakes on their menu. Now, I'm not gonna lie and say they're always great. But on that rare occasion when you get to break the seal on a freshly frosted chocolate cake, you're in for a real treat!
Spiral Diner:Spiral Diner offers a large selection of certified vegan chocolate desserts. Their chocolate cakes are made with fair-trade organic chocolate, and you never have to worry that the knife that cut your slice was tainted with any non-vegan substance. Chocolate Chip Cookies are available daily, and you'll sometimes find Chocolate Petit Fours in the display case. If you're a chocolate freak like me, head straight to the Double Chocolate Fudge Brownies. These legendary monstrosities of chocolaty goodness are so packed full of cocoa powder and vegan chocolate chips, they'll make a grown man weep.
Give 'em a whirl--I wouldn't lie about something as sacred as chocolate.
