Hash Over: Comfort Food On The Second Floor, $3 Maredsous 8 Drafts, Farmers Market Is In The Bag And More

Chefs Scott Gottlich and J Chastain have updated the menu at The Second Floor to focus more on contemporary comfort food along with its signature bistro items. But this being the place that claims to have the largest Scotch selection in Dallas, they needed to dress up Mom's staples. So, for example, shrimp and grits becomes Prawns and Grits; pimiento cheese becomes a spread of French Cantalet, piquillo chiles and brioche toast; and the pot pies are made with foie gras veloute.
The nostalgia carries over to the dessert menu as well, with creme brulees created from banana cream pie and s'mores.
So that's what it must have been like to grow up in Highland Park.

The Flying Saucer's new Beerknurd calendars are available starting today. Each month of the 13-month calendar features a different Flying Saucer location and Beer Club member, or "Beerknurd," from that particular franchise. Calendars are free but available only to current and new Beerknurds.
Speaking of beer, all drafts are $3 at The Fillmore Pub (1004 E. 15th St., Plano) 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. tonight and every Monday. There are a dozen brews to choose from, with 10 permanent and two rotator taps, including Maredsous 8, Dogfishhead 60 Minute IPA, Brooklyn Brown and Guinness.
The Hardline will broadcast from The Library Bar in the Warwick Melrose Hotel (3015 Oak Lawn Ave,) Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and conclude the remote with a drawing for a suite package at a Dallas Stars game. No purchase necessary to win, but it'd be a shame to go and not try the bar's 2004 Best Of Dallas martini.
Just as the farmer's crops don't recognize holidays, Bolsa's monthly Farmers Market isn't taking Sunday off just because it's Labor Day weekend. Local merchants, beekeepers and musicians will all converge on the popular Oak Cliff restaurant (614 W. Davis St.) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
