The Food Shows You Should Be Watching

Categories: Whimsy
The Paulas and the Bobbys and the (ugh) Rachaels better watch their beaters. A new crop of food stars are shaking up the old "if you cook it, they will watch" formula with new concepts, insider tips and sheer, unadulterated gluttony.

Oh, and one of these up-and-comers is even giving that blond guy a run for his money in the hair 'do department.

5 Ingredient Fix (Food Network) She's cute, she's funny and she plays with her food. Claire Robinson is a southern girl through and through, born in Jacksonville, Florida and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. You'll also see hints of Houston and New Orleans in her eclectic five-ingredient (or less) recipes, designed to give maximum impact for minimal effort...which sounds like the Frugal Gourmet. And when one of those ingredients comes from her magic jar of "drippings," she'll have you drooling before the first commercial break. My god--drippings are the same thing as "rich, brown goodness." She is the Frugal Gourmet.

Adam Richman.jpg
Man v. Food (Travel Channel) Adam Richman is up for anything. 13-pound pizza? No problem. 72-ounce steak? Child's play. Burrito the size of a Prius? Bring it on. This classically trained actor with boy-next-door charm travels across the country tackling big time and small town food challenges alike. Pop a Pepcid before watching this one--it's not for the faint of heart. Nice counter to all those health-conscious wusses out there. And he'll die sooner than they will, too.

Anne Burrell.jpg
Secrets of a Restaurant Chef (Food Network) Anne Burrell's impressive resume includes stints at some of New York City's finest restaurants. Felidia and Savoy are on her list, as well as executive chef positions at Lumi and Centro Vinoteca. She knows her stuff, and now she's sharing a few secrets with those of us who don't cure our own meat (so to speak) on the weekends. Not only are her insider restaurant tips truly useful, but her over-the-top style is consistently entertaining. We'll take her "Olive Earl" over that annoying girl's "EVOO" any day.

Dan Ho.jpg
The Dan Ho Show(FitTV) Restaurateur Dan Ho (not Don Ho) was living the American dream--the perfect house, the perfect job, the perfect life--until a health scare inspired him to reexamine his Type-A ways. Ho downsized just about everything (including his super-sized waistline), and adopted a simple, no-fuss life philosophy. Time magazine called him the "anti-Martha," and his do-able tips on cooking, decorating, gardening and more are a breath of...of...what does air smell like when there's no Glade around?
