Dave takes us Park Cities slumming this week, with a visit to Kent Rathbun's Blue Plate Kitchen, where locals pony up for a big-ticket taste of high-concept comfort food.
Check out more shots from the Kitchen's kitchen, and its bar and dining room, in this week's Dish Extra gallery.
I know that Kent Rathbun will not be at all happy with this review and he shouldn't be. The other thing I must say is that I have to agree with pretty much all of the reviewer's observations. As a longtime and happy customer of Abacus and Jaspers I couldn't wait for this Blue Plate Kitchen to open. Eight weeks and three meals later I realized I wouldn't be taking my guests back there again. My wife and I were both sad and angry after so much anticipation for what could have been Rathbun's most ingenious concept yet. Meatloaf both times was so salty we simply couldn't eat it. Mac & Cheese was like soup on all three occasions (how do you screw up Mac & Cheese?). The shrimp with the bisquits were cold and the pot roast was as the reviewer described - like dull store bought and vegetables definately scorched. The service was quick to try to make things right, but we left nonplussed anyway.
I'd like to see this food cooked by the kitchen at Abacus or Jaspers and see if that would make a difference.
