World Championship of Quail Egg Eating

Last Saturday's Prairie Dog Chili Cookoff had a little something for everyone: Tons to sample, huge flea market and, best of all, the world championship of quail-egg eating.

Now, if you dismiss competitive eating as a disgusting sideshow, you're be denying the true greatness of Lester Tucker. The undisputed king of the quail captured his 14th consecutive title by cramming down 38 eggs in 60 seconds. Tucker was sure of winning the annual contest, he tacked the $1,000 $300 prize onto his vacation budget before he left home. Second-place managed a woeful 25 in his futile effort to unseat the champ, so it's tough to fault Tucker's self-confidence. Other contestants could hardly keep the things down.

But that's a good thing. The quail egg crowd loves to see a good spew the way some NASCAR fans cheer for a fiery wreck.

See all the nauseating action in our slideshow.
