Nolan Ryan: Frankly, He's All Beef

Nolan Ryan, no longer tossing the ol' horsehide...we hope.
You'd think that the president of the Texas Rangers--not to mention one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history--would have a lifetime supply of hot dogs, peanuts and crackerjack written into his contract.

In fact, when he's not busy thinking (or "thanking") about baseball, he raises cattle. And, thanks to Messina Hof Winery and Resort, you have the chance to try some of the beef raised on No. 34's ranch during the 2009 Spring Release Dinner 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, at the winery's Vintage House restaurant in Bryan. The dinner also includes tastings of Messina Hof vinos with winery co-founders Paul and Merrill Bonarrigo. Menu items include Nolan Ryan beef tenderloin (which promises to be more tender than a pitcher's glove), watercress salad, mushroom consomme and more.

For reservations, call 800-736-9463 ext. (what else?) 34.
