As with other holidays, local restaurants are going all out with special St. Patrick's Day offerings for their customers on Tuesday.
Urban Taco may not be the obvious choice for St. Patrick's Day revelry, but it's throwing its hat into the green ring for its lucky customers, serving a special St. Pat's chip & salsa trio. Let's see...guessing green, orange-ish and white.
Looking for something a bit more authentic? The Tipperary Inn (5815 Live Oak at Skillman) opens at 11 a.m. and features a day of Irish entertainment like live music and--God help us--step dancers.
It's rumored the Brits tried to subjugate Ireland centuries ago just to stamp out step dancing.
Another traditional Irish option, Idle Rich, has music by Celtic rock band The Killdares at 5:30 p.m., Irish dancing (say it ain't so) and bagpipers (oh, God) at 7 p.m., and--for some welcome relief--King Bucks at 8:30pm. It serves Irish and Irish-American pub food (corned beef, cabbage and Guinness stew, for example) from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
It's not at all authentic, but we give it props for creativity. The Shops at Legacy's Ra Sushi goes green and helps us save some with St. Pat's specials: the St. Patty's Roll (cashew-topped spicy tuna wrapped with sprouts, cucumber and asparagus in lettuce--what, no potatoes? No cabbage?) and the Irish Kiss cocktail (Midori and orange liqueur...although stout beer and cigarette butts would be more appropriate--or would have, until they banned smokes).
Now for Irish protestant celebrations...um...
