Want to help a good thing get even better?

We recently wrote about the phenomenal lunches and dinners provided by aspiring chefs of El Centro College's culinary arts program. Still, the school's kitchen could use a little help. And it's getting it from a few of its famous friends.

From 4 to 7 p.m., March 1, El Centro hosts a fundraiser for planned kitchen renovations, featuring 27 tables of likely fantastic dishes prepared by, oh, Sharon Hage (York Street), Liz and Jim Baron (Blue Mesa Grill), Dunia Borga (La Duni) and Nikky Phinyawatana (Asian Mint, The Mint), Chris Vogeli (III Forks). Heard of those places? Also participating: Dragonfly, several area country clubs, and so on. You may bump into an unknown but up and coming chef at one of the student tables, dedicated to the University of North Texas' Culinary Department, as well as El Centro. Samples will be paired with wine and beer.

Admission is $40 per person, and includes food, drinks and a campus tour, if you care to tear yourself away from said food and drink. Proceeds benefit the Food & Hospitality Institute of El Centro College. The event will be held at the college's downtown campus, 801 Main St. Call 860-2716 or 214-358-4971 to for more information.
